Dunstable Community Gardening Club seeks green-fingered locals

Caddington Grove in London Road hosted the first meeting of their horticultural group this week in the grounds of the care home.

The theme of this year's National Gardening Week is 'Edible Britain,' so Community Relations Lead Kelly Cox hoped the event would bring visitors and residents together to celebrate growing fresh food.

Kelly said "we're so excited to be able to welcome the public into our gardens and to start digging, planting and planning our first dishes from the garden! It's important for our residents to keep active and healthy, and getting out into the fresh air to join the club and spend time with other garden enthusiasts with be brilliant for them. Together we can create something special in the garden - and once we have some crops ready, we're looking forward to enjoying the fruits of our labours together"

Councillor Liz Jones, who also attended the Bedfordshire care home's first meeting said "I was really pleased to be able to support the launch of the Caddington Grove Community Gardening Club. Community engagement brings people together to support one another, providing opportunity for people to learn new skills and engage with others who they would not necessarily cross paths with. I look forward to seeing the vegetables grow over the coming weeks and months."

The Caddington Grove Community Gardening Club will meet weekly on a Tuesday from 11am - 1pm. New members are always welcome to join at any point. Contact us to find out more on 01582 320750 or email [email protected]
