A heartwarming craft activity was given a personal touch when local care home residents and the care team shared what they most admired about each other.
The group, from Chawley Grove Care Home on Cumnor Hill, was tasked with giving hugs with paint to create bespoke T-shirts, while giving heartfelt compliments.
Residents Penny Jones, 81, and Maureen Hayle, 87, were among those taking part, along with Wellbeing Coach Danni Hudson, Nurse Emese Martin and florist Steven Wheeler.
Maureen said of Steven: “We love seeing our friend, Steven. He helps us make flowers for our rooms, and he usually wears a costume that makes us laugh.
“He is a kind man, and we are glad he comes to see us.”
Steven said of Maureen, “I can honestly say, I have never spent such special times with a lady so full of life and energy. Maureen’s infectious smile helps to make everyone around her happy, and we just love her!”
The wearable hugs were created by painting the arms of each participant in different colours and then giving the recipient a big hug.
While making the T-shirts during a sunny afternoon at the care home, Penny spoke of her admiration for Maureen and Emese.
She said: “My friend Maureen looks after me, and I only met her when we moved in together. She always makes sure I get home to bed, and it’s nice to spend fun times with each other.
“Emese takes good care of me and my friends, she always makes us laugh and I like her smile.”
Meanwhile, it was Penny’s smile that was the main feature of Steven’s admiration for her.
Steven added: “The thing I admire most about our lovely Penny is the fact she is never seen without a smile. She is always so cheerful and will give everything a good go!”
Emese added: “Penny is a sweetheart - she spends each day smiling and is always helpful and kind to other residents.”
