Devoted couple Ruth and Jim Wood got an anniversary treat when the team at her late mother’s care home laid on a special picnic to celebrate their 22 years of marriage.
Ruth’s mother, Valerie Walland, lived at Cofton Park Manor Care Home on Lickey Road, and the family became close friends with the big-hearted care team and the other residents.
When Wellbeing Coach Gail Bessant and Customer Relations Manager Wendy Sibley found out the Woods were about to mark their 22nd anniversary, they decided to throw them a picnic in the garden.
Wendy said: “It was a beautiful afternoon filled with laughter, friendship and wonderful memories.
“Ruth and Jim are a terrific couple, and we know it would have touched Valerie enormously that they got to celebrate their wedding anniversary with their friends here.”
Residents joined the couple in the garden, with revellers drinking bubbles and enjoying a delicious picnic spread.
Ruth said: “Jim and I are blown away by Cofton Park Manor’s kindness. It was so lovely spending our wedding anniversary with you all. We had a lovely time!”
Another person who thoroughly enjoyed the festivities was resident Diane Green, 82, who recently mentioned to the care team that she loves picnics.
Keen to make the most of the stunning weather, the team decided to surprise Diane as part of the afternoon of happiness.
Diane said: “I was over the moon with my picnic surprise and I enjoyed every moment!”
