Eastleigh Preschool Children and Alston House Residents Enjoy Sports Day Together

Eastleigh Preschool Children and Alston House Residents Enjoy Sports Day Together

Residents at Alston House Care Home on Leigh Road welcomed children from Crescent Preschool for a fun-filled intergenerational sports day, with members of Eastleigh Town Council helping to referee the activities.

The event brought together older residents and preschool children for a morning of friendly competition, laughter and encouragement. Activities included an egg and spoon race, sack toss, football relay and penalty shootouts.

Resident Bridget Jones, 89, was delighted to win the egg and spoon race and proudly showed off her medal after crossing the finish line.

She said: “Just watching the children competing brings back such memories of my own children’s sports days. I am very happy I have won the race and, look, I have a medal!”

Representatives from Eastleigh Town Council joined the event and helped present medals and trophies to the children. Community Engagement Officer Daryl Hobson attended alongside Councillor Gaz Richardson and youth engagement officers Larissa and Vicky.

Cllr Richardson said: “The intergenerational activities that Alston House hosts are truly incredible and special. Alston House does some great community work, and you can see the residents really enjoy it.”

Alston House runs regular activities with children from Crescent Preschool on Toynbee Road, helping to build links between different generations in the local Eastleigh community.

The sports day was part of the home’s wider wellbeing and activities programme, which supports residents to stay connected with local groups, enjoy familiar experiences and share meaningful moments with others.
