A song-fuelled trip around the world brought back happy holiday memories for care home residents in Verwood this summer.
Cabaret singer Sadie, from Strictly Entertainment, inspired residents at Verwood House Care Home to recall their favourite foreign trips with her ‘All Aboard’ show.
For resident Geoff Harding, 93, it was a lovely chance to look back as he talked about his visits to Spain.
Geoff said: “I have many fond memories of going to Spain to visit my son, as he lives there. It was great fun to watch Sadie perform and think back to those happy days.”
Throughout the show, Sadie kept her audience enthralled with big numbers and a series of costume changes.
Having spent three decades working on stage, including stints on cruise ships, Sadie helped capture the nostalgic mood of holidays of yesteryear.
Resident Joyce Langford, 89, said: “I’ve been lucky enough to travel often in my life and I enjoy thinking back to those trips.
“One of my favourite destinations was Mexico, and it was lovely to share some stories about my adventures there.
“Sadie was great fun to watch, and I hope she comes to see us again sometime.”
The care team at the Ringwood Road home added to the summer cabaret by sourcing vintage postcards to spark conversation.
They booked Sadie’s show because its travel theme naturally tied in with the summer holiday vibe they were aiming for.
Home Ambassador Alicia Bartlett said: “We wanted to give the residents a chance to ‘travel’ again by bringing their holiday memories to life. Sadie’s fantastic performance set the tone and then we had wonderful conversations as the residents told us tales of the places they’d been.
“We certainly have an adventurous group of residents at Verwood House, so it was a treat to hear their stories.”
