The Homemakers of Hamberley

We believe it’s the people that make a loving home. That’s why our carers are so much more – they are Homemakers.

At Hamberley, our innovative, award-winning model of care is built around our Homemakers - a carer with a difference.

Homemakers provide relationship-centred care that is tailored to the unique requirements of each person, prioritising their individual needs. We’re here to support our residents to continue living life in the way that they want to - with as much or as little support as they need.

What is a Homemaker?

A Homemaker is a unique role for a unique person, someone who goes beyond the traditional responsibilities of a carer.

The Homemaker is a universal role – it differs from the traditional care worker role by including the responsibilities of housekeeping and companionship, as well as care. This innovative approach allows Homemakers to provide gap-free care, holistically supporting our residents instead of only fulfilling certain elements of care.

Living our pledge to deliver 'Extra Special, Every Day', our Homemakers are here to focus on the tiny details of daily life that matter most. Our promise is to make each day and each everyday experience, meaningful and special for our residents.

The benefits of the Homemaker Model

What does a Homemaker do?

…whatever is needed to support our residents to live the life they choose.

The daily activities of our Homemakers are designed to provide a warm, welcoming environment for our residents. They include general tidying and ensuring rooms are kept at their best, creating a clean and comfortable space for residents. Our Homemakers also assist residents with personal care, an essential aspect of maintaining their wellbeing and dignity. They are responsible for administering medication and closely monitoring the wellbeing of each resident, ensuring their health needs are met promptly and effectively.

But our Homemakers' roles go beyond basic care. They help organise day trips or shopping visits for residents, making everyday activities enjoyable and manageable. They also support residents with their mobility needs, aiding them in moving around and increasing their independence.

Homemakers play an important role in supporting residents to develop meaningful friendships within the home and enjoy social networks within the wider community.

Above all, our Homemakers are friends and companions to our residents, providing emotional support and a sense of community, which is vital for overall happiness and wellbeing.
