The private gardens at Lovell Place Care Home were filled to capacity on Saturday 22nd August as more than 300 guests joined residents and team members for the home's annual Summer Fayre. The occasion marked the largest public turnout in the home's history, bringing together families from Charlton Hayes, Patchway, and across Bristol while raising over £400 for the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity.
The celebration brought together generations of local families, with parents, schoolchildren, and toddlers sharing the sunshine with residents. The day was created to celebrate community links in North Bristol, welcoming neighbours through the doors and giving residents the chance to host a vibrant garden party for their loved ones.
Live Music, Summer Dining, and Garden Celebrations
Throughout the afternoon, live performances set a celebratory tone across the lawn. The Mini Massive Sax Flextet delivered a lively programme of saxophone melodies, while popular musical duo It Takes Two (Jo & John) brought guests and residents to their feet with classic vocal favourites.
The home's culinary team kept visitors fed with a freshly prepared barbecue featuring burgers, hot dogs, and vegetarian options, served alongside fresh fruit kebabs, traditional British summer pudding, ice cream, and chilled refreshments.
Support from Local Charities and Community Partners
A central feature of the afternoon was the wide array of stalls and activities provided by local independent organisations and craftspeople. Visiting stalls gave residents and families the opportunity to browse unique goods and learn more about regional community initiatives, including:
- Bristol Dementia Action Alliance, sharing valuable guidance on dementia-friendly community support.
- Patchway Men's Shed, exhibiting handcrafted woodwork and discussing practical community projects.
- Jeanne Clements representing BRACE Dementia Research, raising awareness for scientific research into cognitive conditions.
- Me Time Café, keeping crowds smiling with their inventive and interactive Human Fruit Machine game.
- Natalie Palmer Handmade Jewellery, showcasing bespoke local artisan crafts.
- Linda Castree, providing detailed face painting for visiting children and families.
The event also saw strong support from nearby educational partners, with families visiting from Charlton Wood Primary School, alongside parents from local early years providers Snapdragons Nursery and Ambourne House Day Nursery.
Shared Moments in the Gardens
For relatives visiting Lovell Place, the afternoon offered an opportunity to spend relaxed, uninterrupted time with family members in an engaging outdoor setting.
"It was so nice seeing everyone out with their families enjoying the lovely garden, it was a really lovely day for everyone."

Vital Funds for Great Western Air Ambulance
Through ticket contributions, barbecue sales, game entries, and voluntary donations, the fayre raised more than £400 for the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC). The charity provides critical pre-hospital emergency care and helicopter transport across Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire, relying on charitable contributions to maintain its lifesaving service.
