West Byfleet care home residents got the chance to talk about their warm-hearted community with Woking’s mayor this August, accompanied by a live harp soundtrack.
Councillor Robert Leach was invited to visit Charrington Manor Care Home, on Hobbs Close, and got a taste of how residents keep busy and active every day.
Wellbeing Coach Claudia Modiga and the team wanted to show the Mayor how great conversation, nutritious food and delightful music boost the residents’ wellbeing.
Harpist Margaret Watson lent her talent to the afternoon, creating a beautiful musical backdrop to the socialising.
Resident Peggy Foster, 97, said: “It was lovely to meet the Mayor, who was very interested to learn more about life at Charrington Manor. We told him all about the different things we enjoy – our games, exercise classes, talks, you name it. He was impressed!”
Cllr Leach was introduced to residents, many of whom found common ground as they hailed from the West Country, where he was born and bred.
Conversation soon turned to the busy social lives of the residents, many of whom say they’ve never been busier.
Claudia said: “It’s true, there’s never a dull moment here, the residents are curious, outgoing and love trying new things.
“It’s all about keeping the body and brain busy, so we’re always looking for fun ways to keep residents active, fuel the mind and support physical fitness.
“Margaret’s performance was a prime example of that approach – this beautiful music is a treat for the ears and nourishes the soul.”
