Performers from countries across the world provided the soundtrack to a week of travelling adventures at a Cofton Hackett care home this summer.
Residents at Cofton Park Manor Care Home, on Lickey Road, ‘journeyed’ from Sweden to India, then from the Philippines to the Caribbean, before ending in the Spanish islands for a rave.
Every day, the sounds and tastes of the destination provided a cultural experience, with talented musicians taking to the stage to showcase the best music.
Resident Pat Westwood, 88, said: “What an adventure - the music has been magnificent and no two days were the same! I really loved the steel band, they were brilliant.”
The trip kicked off in Sweden, where residents were entertained by singer Becca Gee, who played the legendary band ABBA’s greatest hits.
On Tuesday, when the residents arrived in India, it was time to learn Bhangra dancing and to experience Punjabi drum music by performers from Hit The Dhol.
Wellbeing Lead Gail Bessant said: “The residents absolutely loved dancing to some classic ABBA and then learning new moves with Hit The Dhol. It was great to see so much energy and excitement in the room!”
Over the next two days, singer Kiestiane took the residents to the Philippines, singing a beautiful set of songs, before duo Norman and Sylvia from Steel Pan, took them on a journey to the Caribbean the next day.
The final day ended in a rave spectacular, when the Cofton Park Manor team transformed the home’s bistro into the hottest nightclub in Ibiza.
Customer Relations Manager Wendy Sibley said: “You wouldn’t believe the number of people in our home who love rave music – the residents had their glow sticks out and loved DJ Pete’s set of total bangers.
It was the perfect way to round off an incredible week of world music, and we even had a garden after-party as so many residents wanted to keep the fun going.
“We can’t thank the team enough for bringing the week together, and all the musicians who shared their talent with us. Thank you to our incredible chef team for providing delicious, authentic global dishes each day. Our adventure around the world was certainly a feast for the senses!”
