A fundraiser launched to help repair the leaky roof on a Rednal church got a welcome helping hand when local care home residents donated £200 to the appeal.
Parishioner Ann Cheetham, who lives at Cofton Park Manor Care Home, on Lickey Road, presented the £200 cheque to Reverend Chris Chalmers.
Vital repairs to the roof at St Stephen the Martyr Church, on Edgewood Road, are expected to cost more than £400,000, and the church has already collected £82,000 in donations.
With the target still a long way off, Ann and fellow residents and colleagues at the care home in Cofton Hackett wanted to do their bit to help.
Ann, 89, said: “I'm thrilled to be involved and to support the church. Let’s hope they can get their roof fixed before the winter comes.”
The funds were raised via a raffle organised by Cofton Park Manor, with a luxury hamper as the first prize.
As a devoted member of the church community, Ann wanted to hand the cheque over personally when Reverend Chris stopped by the home to thank the fundraisers.
Reverend Chris said: “It was so lovely meeting Ann and everyone from Cofton Park Manor. We appreciate their help very much.”
For Customer Relations Manager Wendy Sibley, the fundraiser was another opportunity for the community-focused home to make a vital contribution to a good cause in the area.
Wendy added: “We are proud to support our local community in any way we can and to help preserve an important place of worship and community gathering.”
