The music, flavours and sunshine of Greece brought continental magic to a special end of summer party at a Palmer’s Green care home.
The team at Brookwater House Care Home, on Oakthorpe Road, were inspired to host a Grecian celebration by resident Andreas Antoniades and his wife Hafiza, who were the guests of honour. Andreas, who hails from Greece, was overjoyed by the party, which featured music from Costas & Penny and a feast of traditional dishes from his homeland.
His wife Hafiza said: “My husband told me he wanted to hear some Greek music, and the idea for this party went from there.
“I booked the band, and the team at Brookwater House put together a wonderful celebration of Greece with delicious food.
“Andreas has done a lot for everybody throughout his life, and I wanted to bring him some happiness, which the party definitely did!”
Fellow residents, relatives and care colleagues came together to share the cultural experience, which involved plenty of dancing and singing.
Chef Djana Toska and Homemakers Margarita Vervele and Ariana Mato were thrilled by the party as they also hail from Greece.
Djana took the opportunity to teach resident Ann Hollowood, 86, the art of Greek dancing.
Margarita said: “It was very special to celebrate Greece. I miss the sea, the food and absolutely everything about my country.
“It meant a lot to share all of these wonderful Greek things with our friends here at Brookwater.”
All staff dressed in blue for the happy occasion, and Home Manager Daniela Danciulescu said it was great to see the event bring everyone together.
Daniela said: "Our Greek summer celebration was a fantastic success - it was wonderful to see residents, relatives and colleagues coming together to enjoy the music, food and atmosphere.
“Events like this provide opportunities for connection, enjoyment and creating special memories. The laughter and participation throughout the day made it a truly memorable occasion."
