Music lovers at a Dunstable care home got the opportunity to be part of an orchestra when an interactive musical experience took centre stage in their living room. The team at Caddington Grove Care Home, on London Road, welcomed musicians from Alina Orchestra to run a special group session, where residents took on singing and percussion duties.
Residents had a wonderful time accompanying performers Sharon Eckman and Rachel Edmonds, who played violin, bassoon, cello and keyboard during a wide-ranging set.
The joyful concert left everyone feeling uplifted and proud of their contribution to the music.
Resident Trish Russell, 78, said: “I never dreamed I could be part of an orchestra, so this was a wonderful surprise. I enjoyed singing and playing enormously - the ladies from the orchestra were fantastic.”
The Alina Orchestra has a mission to make classical music accessible and inclusive for people, and runs an outreach programme across local communities.
Sessions are designed to boost the wellbeing of all participants, with particular benefit to people living with dementia.
Caddington Grove’s Wellbeing Lead Hillary Pasinawako said Alina Orchestra’s visit had made a lasting impression on the residents.
Hillary said: “It’s always moving to see the way music connects with the residents, so this afternoon was very special indeed. Sharon and Rachel were terrific and gave everyone confidence to join in, while showcasing what brilliant musicians they are.We can’t wait to welcome them back again.”
