Sweet Sounds of Spring - Live Music Brings Joy To Wixhams Care Home

Sweet Sounds of Spring - Live Music Brings Joy To Wixhams Care Home

Former employee of Bedford College Graham Langton took centre stage as spring arrived at a Bedford care home, picking up his guitar and filling the home with music in a heartwarming celebration of the new season.

The 74-year-old joined in as award-winning performer Fiona Harrison entertained residents at Elstow Manor Care Home, Bedford Road.

The professional performer thrilled residents with a lively mix of vintage classics, from big band and swing to musical theatre and rock and roll.

But it was Graham’s impromptu performance that truly captured the spirit of the afternoon.

He said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing my guitar alongside performers over the years, and Fiona has been fantastic.

“She really encourages me to get involved, and there’s nothing quite like picking up my old guitar again. It brings back so many memories.”

Graham, who once worked at Bedford College, first learned to play as a child. He said music had remained a constant throughout his life and fondly remembers playing the guitar accompanied by his mum on the piano.

He added: “Once you’ve played, it never really leaves you. Being able to share that again, especially in a moment like this, makes it even more special.”

Fiona, known for her vintage and retro performances spanning opera, jazz, 1940s tribute and swing, performed in glamorous period costume, bringing energy and nostalgia to the room.

Residents clapped, sang along and embraced the uplifting atmosphere as the home marked the arrival of spring.

Elstow Manor Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Oliver Waddington said: “The event was all about celebrating the season and creating these very special moments of connection.

“Graham’s performance becoming an unexpected highlight and we were delighted to see the pair perform together.”
