A newly refurbished, state-of-the-art dementia care suite has officially opened at our care home in Brampton.
The memory care suite at Montague House Care Home has undergone a major refurbishment, creating a more supportive and engaging environment for residents living with dementia.
The new space was formally opened by Jane Walton, who performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Jane’s late husband, Don, lived at Montague House for five months.
Jane said: “Don would have loved life on this wonderful floor. He’d been here for five months but unfortunately didn’t live to see this transformation. Well done to all the staff who helped to make this happen.”
She has also taken on the role of the home’s first Dementia Family Buddy, where she will support families whose loved ones are making the transition to living at Montague.
Head of Dementia for Hamberley Care Homes, David Moore, said the improvements are already making a difference. He said: “The changes made to the floor are already having a positive impact on residents’ moods and feelings of security.”
The refurbishment includes dementia-friendly colours on corridor walls and themed communal spaces designed to spark memories. These areas also provide clear “landmarks” to help residents navigate their surroundings and explore safely.
Montague House Home Manager Paula Yorkston Toy said the project had been a true team effort. She added: “It’s so wonderful to see a plan finally come to fruition.
“I’m incredibly proud of the hard work the whole team put in to make the transition as seamless and calm as possible. It wouldn’t have been possible without the time and dedication of staff across all areas of the home, or the incredible support from David.”
