Care Worker Completes Charity Walk After Heart Attack Recovery

Care Worker Completes Charity Walk After Heart Attack Recovery

A Dorking care home worker who recovered from a heart attack last year has helped raise £500 for charity by completing a major fundraising walk.

Roy Booth, Customer Relations Manager at Dorking Manor Care Home, took part in The Banham Marsden March and The Banham Marsden March at Home 2026 alongside colleague Lesley Phillips.

Roy, who suffered a heart attack in 2025, said taking on the challenge marked an important milestone in his recovery, with walking forming a key part of his rehabilitation.

Together, the pair completed the event under the team name Hamberley Ramblers, raising money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

Roy said: “Once we have recovered ourselves, we will certainly be planning our next event.”

Lesley added: “It was amazing, I didn’t think I would do it, but it was a wonderful atmosphere, and everyone cheered everyone on.

“It feels so good to raise cash for such a worthwhile charity.”

The duo, who have both worked at the Ridgeway Road care home for nearly two years, joined thousands of fundraisers taking part in the annual event.

The Banham Marsden March is The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity’s flagship fundraising challenge, held each May.

Participants walk the 15-mile route between the charity’s two hospitals in Chelsea and Sutton, while others choose the family-friendly final five-mile section or complete the challenge from home.
