A Patchway care home marked International Nurses Day by visiting the nursing team at Southmead Hospital and presenting them with gifts in recognition of their dedication and care.
The team at Lovell Place Care Home, Sparrowbill Way, surprised nurses at Southmead Hospital with hampers of homemade cookies and personalised gifts as a gesture of thanks for their continued commitment to supporting patients and families.
Erin Trinidad from Ward 9 said: “It’s very nice to receive such a warm thank you on a day which means so much. Nursing can be incredibly demanding, but gestures like this really remind us how valued and appreciated we are by the wider community.”
The home also paid tribute to Lovell Place residents June Goffin, a former Matron, and Sue Purrington a former nurse, who reflected on how the profession has evolved.
June, who was a former Matron in the BRI, said: “I loved teaching my staff and servicing my patients, I was also able to travel a lot with my work and my late husband, Richard.
“Compassion, patience and treating people with dignity are just as important today as they have ever been.”
The initiative formed part of the home’s celebrations for International Nurses Day, which recognises the compassion and commitment shown by nurses both locally and around the world.
Home Ambassador Jasmine Wareham said: “Our nurses are a key part of our community both here at Lovell Place and further afield, and it is important to us to show them how much we appreciate everything they do.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have our own dedicated nursing team, as well as residents like June and Sue who have such a wealth of professional experience and insight to share with us.
“Nurses provide comfort, reassurance and expert care during some of the most difficult moments in people’s lives. We wanted them to know just how valued and appreciated they truly are.”
International Nurses Day is celebrated globally each year on May 12, marking the anniversary of the birth of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale and recognising the essential role nurses play in healthcare systems worldwide.
The 2026 theme, “Our Nurses. Our Future. The economic power of care,” highlights the significant social, professional and economic impact nurses have within communities across the globe.
