Residents at a Wixams care home have been getting creative through a series of art workshops led by local artists.
The budding artists at Elstow Manor Care Home, Bedford Road, recently took part in watercolour sessions with artist Pauline Lewis, creating artwork inspired by sunsets, gardens, washing lines and sailing boats.
They have also joined art therapy workshops with Joanne Goodrum from Creative Mojo, working together to produce themed pieces celebrating occasions including National Bee Day, VE Day and Claude Monet’s water lilies.
Elstow Manor resident Ray Anness, aged 97, said: “I used to paint years ago, so it’s been lovely picking up a brush again. The sessions bring back happy memories.”
Fellow resident Wilf Hulland, aged 95, added: “It’s relaxing and gives us all something to look forward to. We have a laugh together while we’re painting.”
Another resident, Ruth Register, aged 95, said: “I never thought I was artistic, but everyone encourages each other and it’s amazing what you can create.”
Elstow Manor Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Oliver Waddington said: “Art has so many benefits, it’s something we can enjoy together or can be a solitary exercise, either way there is a huge amount of satisfaction from creating something unique.”
