Residents, colleagues and visitors at Charrington Manor Care Home in West Byfleet came together for a vibrant Africa Day celebration filled with music, dancing and cultural traditions.
The celebration at the Hobbs Close care home honoured African heritage and the contributions of the home’s African colleagues, creating a joyful day of connection, colour and community.
Outgoing Woking Mayor, Cllr Amanda Boote, also joined the celebration during the final hours of her mayoral term.
One of the highlights of the day saw residents and team members trying on the Mayor’s ceremonial chain and becoming “Mayor for a Minute”, bringing plenty of smiles and laughter.
Resident Robert Norfolk said: “It was such a joyful day. It was wonderful to see everyone smiling and joining in together.
“I really didn’t expect to be wearing such grand chains today!”
Entertainment was provided by Dubafrique UK, who brought African drumming, music and dance performances to the home.
Charrington Manor Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Claudia Modiga said residents thoroughly enjoyed the lively atmosphere.
Claudia said: “The residents thoroughly enjoyed the lively atmosphere and interactions with Dubafrique UK, who brought energetic African drumming, music and dance performances, creating a wonderful experience.”
Following the event, Cllr Boote attended the official handover ceremony where she passed the mayoral chain to the new Mayor of Woking, Robert Leach. Her visit made the Africa Day celebration even more memorable for residents and colleagues.
