The library, which pulls up at the home every month, brings with it hundreds of wonderful new stories for residents to get stuck into.

As famous writer Maya Angelo said: “When I look back, I am so impressed again with the life-giving power of literature. If I were a young person today, trying to gain a sense of myself in the world, I would do that again by reading, just as I did when I was young."

Montague House Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Gabrielle Butler said: “Reading opens up whole new worlds to us, from the comfort of our own armchair.

“The mobile library means we get access to some amazing literature and there’s always something new to pick out.”

When the bus pulls up, residents climb on board to make their selection and spend hours browsing the books from coffee table literature to classic novels.

Research shows that reading helps improve capabilities such as memory, cognition, and attention span, especially as we all get older.

By strengthening memory retention, reading can slow the degenerative process of dementia and Alzheimer's by keeping the mind limber. Books can also help us sleep better as well as reduce stress.

The mobile bus is run by Cambridgeshire County Council and carries around 3,000 books including print, books on CD, fiction and non-fiction.

Gabrielle added: “As well as looking through the books, we have found that this is a very social activity, and we all start talking about the books we like or don’t like.”
