Residents in Wargrave are being given the chance to leave their mark on an exciting new care home before it even opens its doors - by helping to name its community bistro.
The team behind Thames Wood House Care Home, situated on School Hill, is inviting local people to submit ideas for a name for the bistro at the heart of its brand-new home, which is due to welcome residents this autumn.
Organisers are hoping entries will reflect Wargrave’s rich history, local landmarks and community spirit, with the winning name set to become a permanent feature of the new development.
Home Manager Diana Nica said the competition is the first step in building strong links with local people, and the care home team cannot wait to get started.
She said: “We are very excited to serve this community and offer high quality care in a wonderful home. We have recruited a first-class team committed to providing incredible care; we cannot wait to open our doors.”
Community Relations Manager Sue Ruff said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be preparing to open Thames Wood House and become part of the Wargrave community. From day one, our aim has been to create a home that feels connected to the village and welcoming to everyone, not just our residents and their families. We want local people to feel that this is their place too.”
The winner of the competition will be invited to a special opening event at the home, where they will be asked to do the official honours and cut the ribbon.
Diana added: “Our beautiful new bistro will be a real hub of the home, somewhere people can meet friends, enjoy a coffee, share a meal and spend time together. We’d love it to have a name that reflects the character, history and pride of Wargrave.
“We cannot wait to see what names people come up with!”
Thames Wood House Care Home, part of the Hamberley Care Homes group, will provide residential, nursing, dementia and short-term respite care for older people in Wargrave. It is expected to create jobs for around 100 people.
To enter the competition, people are asked to submit their suggested name along with a short explanation of why it is meaningful to the local community.
