John and Louise Scullion marked 50 years of marriage at Newton House, where John now lives.
Friends, family and staff gathered at the home to watch with joy as the happy couple danced their first wedding dance – Lara’s Theme from the multi-Oscar-winning film Dr Zhivago.
The couple, both aged 75, were married on October 28, 1972. Together they have two children and five grandchildren.
The pair have spent most of their lives in the area, including living in Johnstone for more than 30 years when John worked in Paisley. Today Louise lives in the south side of Glasgow.
John is a former industrial chemist and Louise worked as an area manager supplying supermarkets and managing a large team of people.
And the secret to their happy marriage?
Louise said it was all down to ‘patience’ and ‘acceptance of each other’s differences’.
Newton House Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Marianne Fernandez-Faichney said: “Staff helped Louise set the lounge up for the event and include all residents in the celebration.
“It was so lovely to see the couple celebrate such a special benchmark. We all thought it was delightful that Louise had kept the very same knife they used 50 years ago!”
