Upton Manor in Poole Celebrates Couple’s Platinum Anniversary

A letter from the King isn’t something you expect to receive, but at Upton Manor Care Home in Poole, it became the centrepiece of a celebration marking seventy years of marriage. For Maurice and Noreen Guy, their platinum anniversary was a chance to bring together family, memories and a lifetime shared.Seventy years, celebrated together

Maurice and Noreen Guy marked their platinum wedding anniversary on 24 March at Upton Manor Care Home in Poole, surrounded by family, friends and fellow residents who have come to know them well.

The celebration carried on into the following day, which was also Maurice’s birthday, adding another layer of meaning to an already special occasion.

“It’s been wonderful to get our family and friends together like this,” Maurice said. “We really did not expect such a fuss, but it is amazing to see everyone.”

Among the cards and well wishes, one arrived that quickly drew everyone’s attention. A congratulatory letter from King Charles III became a focal point of the day, displayed alongside the couple’s wedding photographs.

Guests gathered around to read it, with Maurice and Noreen quietly taking it all in, surrounded by the people who have been part of their journey.

Their story began more than seventy years ago at a dance hall in Moreton. After Maurice returned from serving in the RAF, the couple married in 1956 at St Christopher’s Church in Winfrith and went on to build their life together in Dorset.

Music played an important part in the celebration, with Frank Sinatra’s Love and Marriage setting the tone and bringing back familiar memories.

“Noreen has always been the sensible one and she still is,” Maurice said. “She’s the love of my life.”

Noreen added: “Maurice is a romantic and has always bought me flowers.”
