A new community dementia hub has opened at Edwalton Manor Care Home in Rushcliffe, creating a welcoming space where families, carers and people living with dementia can access information, advice and support.
The Rushcliffe Dementia Hub, hosted at the Landmere Lane care home, brings together local organisations and support services to help people better understand dementia and navigate the challenges it can bring.
The hub was officially opened by Rushcliffe MP James Naish and has been developed in partnership with Hamberley Care Homes and the Alzheimer’s Society.
David Moore, Head of Dementia at Hamberley Care Homes, said he was proud to see the initiative launch at Edwalton Manor.
He explained that the hub provides a supportive environment where families and carers can access trusted information, practical guidance and the opportunity to speak with people who understand the challenges of dementia.
The Rushcliffe Dementia Hub builds on the success of the Bassetlaw Dementia Hub, which has been supporting local communities for more than two years.
Held on the first Thursday of each month, the sessions bring together organisations including the Alzheimer’s Society, the Carers Federation and local social prescribers, offering advice, conversation and connections to further support.
Each session also includes an optional information talk on topics relevant to people living with dementia and their families, such as staying active, maintaining wellbeing and planning holidays.
Sharon Grocock, Community Development Coordinator for the Alzheimer’s Society in Nottinghamshire, said hubs like this can play an important role for families navigating a dementia diagnosis.
She explained that many people are unsure where to turn when dementia first affects their family, and community spaces like the Rushcliffe Dementia Hub can help people find guidance, reassurance and connection with others facing similar experiences.
Alongside practical information, the hub also offers an opportunity for people to meet others in similar situations, share experiences and build supportive local connections.
The Rushcliffe Dementia Hub takes place from 11am to 1pm on the first Thursday of each month at Edwalton Manor Care Home.
