Wartime classics conjure up memories for Verwood residents

Family and friends came together at a Verwood care home to commemorate VE Day and talk about their special memories.

Residents at Verwood House Care Home, Ringwood Road, couldn’t wait to play the wartime classics from the Andrews Sisters and tuck into a traditional tea when they threw their party.

Resident David Taylor, aged 78, has no memory of VE Day but says it’s important that the memories his parents shared are passed on to younger generations.

He said: “VE Day is a chance to commemorate the heroes, but also, a chance to keep these precious memories alive. We have a lot to learn from remembering victory in Europe.”

Wellbeing Coach Emilia Turner added: “It was a fantastic afternoon of remembrance and joy, reflection and togetherness.

“The event was a wonderful tribute to a historic moment, and we were delighted to see so many residents, families, friends, visitors, and our dedicated staff members come together for the occasion.

“The atmosphere was made even more special as we listened to timeless classics from the Andrews Sisters, the D-Day Darlings, and more. Their nostalgic melodies brought back fond memories and added a heartfelt soundtrack to our celebration.

“Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so memorable. It was a beautiful reminder of the strength of community and the importance of honouring the past together.”
