PLAYFUL UPTON RESIDENTS NEVER GET BOARD OF GAMES

Residents and staff raised £127.50 by selling tickets and raffling off a selection of goodies collected by their Activities Team.

Upton Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Amy Morrison said everyone was delighted with the initiative which had created so much laughter as well as bringing people together.

She said: “When we held the raffle, we were not sure how the funds would be spent, but the residents decided on the games.

“It had been mentioned to me in our resident and family meetings that some of the male residents would perhaps like a Shove Half Penny Board or Tabletop Football to enjoy as that was what they used to play when they were younger.

“So that’s exactly what we did! We also had enough money to purchase a three-in-one game set of Curling, Shuffleboard and 10 Pin Bowling as well, although everyone has enjoyed them, not just the men!

“The games have proved a great way of bringing people together and encouraging group activity.”

Board games are known to trigger the release of endorphins, which are the body’s natural ‘feel good’ chemicals.

Amy added: “We have certainly discovered some of us are more patient than others! We are having so much fun here at Upton Manor.”

The tickets were bought by residents, staff, families as well as members of the local community.
