Registered Care Home Manager
Helena, a dedicated member of the Hamberley team since November 2020, began her career in healthcare as a Registered Nurse after graduating from Sussex Downs School of Nursing in 1982. With two decades at Eastbourne District General Hospital and nearly 20 years as a Registered Care Home Manager including roles with Methodist Homes and Care UK, her expertise is accentuated by international experience with the European Platform of Rehabilitation. Helena also spent time on kibbutzim in Israel and supported the American army in Germany. Outside her leadership role at Abbots Wood Manor, Helena enjoys running in the countryside with her dogs, and supporting her granddaughter with learning to ride her first pony.

Customer Relations Manager
Lisa has been working in the luxury care sector in the customer relations role, supporting families for 4 years.
What are you responsible for in your role?
Supporting families who are looking into care for a loved one and helping them to find the most suitable care for their family member. I am also charged with ensuring the home is well connected to the local community, both by bringing the community into the home for our free community support groups and café’s, and supporting and working with local community groups. I am passionate about improving life for people living with dementia. I work as part of the Wealden Dementia Action Alliance and am also a committee member for the Lewes and District Dementia Action Alliance. In both alliances, I help to raise awareness of dementia and support businesses and community groups to understand how to best support those living with dementia. I am also an ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society, delivering dementia friends talks in the community, to raise awareness of dementia. I am a mental health first aider and love being able to use these skills to support families, residents and staff.
What do you enjoy most about your role?:
I love supporting families with what can often be a stressful and complicated pathway into care, helping them to understand all the nuances and directing them where to find the right support for their loved one. I also love going out into the community and making and maintaining connections.
"I am very keen on keeping fit. I run and have been a member of Hailsham Harriers running club for the last 11 years, competing in both road and cross-country races, am Ladies Vice Captain, and committee member. I am part of the core team for the Abbots Wood Park Run and volunteer there weekly to support the local community. I am also a director of community group Hailsham Active who promote healthy activity for all in the community. I attend kickboxing classes weekly and am an orange belt working towards green. I also attend Pilates classes weekly and lift weights regularly. I’m a huge reader and love a dystopian science fantasy book!"
