Residents at Edwalton Manor Care Home in Nottingham recently enjoyed a cheerful tropical-themed day designed to brighten the winter months and bring back happy holiday memories.
Despite the cold weather outside, the home’s cinema space was transformed into a relaxed beach-inspired setting, complete with calming ocean visuals, summer music and tropical touches. Residents embraced the theme with sunglasses, hats and colourful flower garlands, creating a light-hearted and sociable atmosphere throughout the morning.
Creative Wellbeing Coach Alice Kirkby organised the experience to offer something a little different during the winter season, helping residents reminisce about past travels while enjoying a shared moment together. Refreshing mocktails and ice creams added to the holiday feel, encouraging conversation and plenty of laughter.
Resident Doris Law, aged 96, said:
“It felt just like a lovely day out in the sunshine wearing my sunglasses and hat. It brought back some wonderful memories.”
The event sparked conversations about favourite holidays, seaside trips and travel experiences, with residents sharing stories and reminiscing together. Team members also joined in, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and sense of escapism created for the day.
Moments like these often become simple highlights in the week, creating opportunities for connection, reminiscence and enjoyment while bringing a welcome lift during the colder months.
