Residents at Montague House Care Home in Brampton recently enjoyed a cheerful tropical-themed surprise designed to brighten the winter months and bring a touch of sunshine indoors.
The home’s cinema space was transformed into a relaxed beach-inspired setting, complete with palm decorations, summer music and colourful touches that helped create a warm, sociable atmosphere. Residents embraced the experience from the comfort of their armchairs, sharing conversation, laughter and memories of past holidays.
Resident Glenda Read, aged 90, particularly enjoyed the unexpected treat. She said:
“January can be such a gloomy month, so it was lovely to have a taste of the Bahamas here. It was such a wonderful day and a complete surprise.”
Residents were treated to a specially created “Montague Sunrise” mocktail while relaxing to a playlist of classic summer favourites from the 1950s through to the 1970s. The music sparked conversations about travel, seaside trips and favourite holiday destinations.
RAF veteran Brian Lanham, aged 89, commented:
“I could easily drift off to sea in here.”
Fellow resident Sue Mudge, 78, added that the experience provided a welcome escape from the winter weather outside.
Wellbeing Lead Rosemarie Parks explained that the event was designed to lift spirits during the colder months, bringing residents together for a shared moment of enjoyment and reminiscence.
Judging by the smiles throughout the day, the tropical surprise provided exactly the kind of mid-winter lift everyone was hoping for.
