Special Visits from Pepsi and Sprite Bring Smiles to Newton House Care Home

Residents at Newton House Care Home in Newton Mearns, Glasgow have been enjoying some familiar feathered visitors recently, as two Silkie chickens, Pepsi and Sprite, continue to brighten days with their regular visits back to the home where they first hatched.

Earlier this year, residents followed the journey from egg to chick, watching with anticipation as the chickens hatched at Newton House. The experience created a real sense of excitement throughout the home and provided a shared moment that residents still talk about today.

Resident Gwen Campbell remembers the occasion fondly:

“I remember the day they hatched, and we were all so excited. There was such a lovely atmosphere in the home. Watching them hatch was very special, and I just love seeing them whenever they come back to visit.”

After hatching, the chicks were rehomed with Bunny & Co, a mobile petting zoo that regularly visits the home. Thanks to this ongoing partnership, residents are still able to see Pepsi and Sprite as they grow, reconnecting with the experience and enjoying the gentle companionship animals can bring.

Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Kerry-Anne McDade said the visits continue to have a positive impact:

“These visits spark conversation, bring back memories and create a real sense of enjoyment for residents. It’s lovely to see how much happiness Pepsi and Sprite still bring whenever they visit.”

These small, shared moments often stay with residents long after the visit itself, and it’s clear Pepsi and Sprite have earned a special place in the hearts of everyone at Newton House.
