Residents Enjoy Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Abbots Wood Manor Care Home

Residents at Abbots Wood Manor Care Home in Hailsham stepped into a world of imagination as the home hosted a whimsical Mad Hatter’s Tea Party inspired by the much-loved story Alice in Wonderland.

The event transformed the home into a scene reminiscent of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale, with colourful hats, themed decorations and plenty of laughter as residents gathered to enjoy the afternoon together.

Resident Iris Conway, aged 93, fully embraced the spirit of the occasion by designing and making her own handmade hat especially for the celebration.

“I have always loved Alice in Wonderland,” Iris said. “It’s full of imagination and fun and I wanted to make a bit of a big deal of it. Life should never be boring. My hat does seem to have attracted quite a bit of interest. I think the Mad Hatter would approve.”

Residents at the London Road home joined in the theme, dressing up and enjoying time together in a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere.

The celebrations included a buffet supper with sandwiches, cheese straws, sausage whirls and cupcakes, giving everyone the chance to sit, chat and enjoy the lively setting.

Wellbeing Coach Hanne Johnstone said the afternoon was filled with smiles and conversation as residents took part at their own pace.

She explained that events like these help create shared moments of happiness and connection within the home.

The day also included a light-hearted group quiz, offering another opportunity for residents to laugh, reminisce and enjoy each other’s company.

At Abbots Wood Manor, themed events and activities are an important part of daily life, helping residents stay socially connected, engaged and able to enjoy the interests and experiences that matter to them.
