Residents at Chawley Grove Care Home in Cumnor, Oxfordshire recently enjoyed a vibrant Hawaiian-themed celebration, bringing a splash of sunshine and tropical spirit to brighten the winter months.
The home was transformed for the occasion with colourful decorations, while scenes of tropical beaches played on the cinema screen to help create a relaxed island atmosphere. Residents enjoyed refreshments including tropical mocktails and fresh fruit kebabs as the celebrations unfolded.
Centenarian Walter Allen, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday, was among those taking part in the festivities. A former local government officer at Poole Borough Council, Walter spent the afternoon reminiscing about family holidays to destinations including Malta, France, Gibraltar and Madeira.
Walter said it was wonderful to hear everyone sharing their travel stories and favourite holiday memories, adding that for a while it felt as though everyone had been transported somewhere warm and sunny.
The themed day sparked plenty of conversation among residents, with many reflecting on past adventures, favourite destinations and life experiences.
Customer Relations Manager Sonja Jueterbock said the celebration had been a huge success and brought plenty of laughter to the home.
She explained that events like these are a wonderful way to encourage conversation, share memories and create uplifting moments for residents, particularly during the colder winter months.
