Fulborn church joins care home for harvest donation

Fulborn church joins care home for harvest donation

A local foodbank has been the focus of a harvest project between Saint Vigor’s Church and a Fulbourn care home as worshippers celebrated the season and collected donations.

Cambridge Grove Care Home on Cambridge Road co-ordinated a donation drive for Hope Against Poverty’s Food On The Go service, asking residents, loved ones and colleagues to support the efforts.

Every year, with the help of Saint Vigor’s, the home hosts a Harvest Festival service, in addition to the monthly worship provided for residents unable to attend the church.

All services are led by clergy Anne Jarvis and Mary, and the annual Harvest is extra special for all.

Resident Bob Wilson, aged 97, said: “I really appreciate the staff putting on these services for us all. We can’t attend a church, but we still want to celebrate special occasions like this.”

Wellbeing Coach Andrea Murphy thanked church representatives Anne and Mary for leading the service.

Andrea said: “Anne and Mary are popular with the residents – they always bring such a meaningful and poignant service to our home.”

Following the service, Home Ambassador Amy Milburn took the donations to the food bank and hopes the goods will help local people facing food poverty.

Amy said: “We love to hold our annual Harvest Festival, and we choose to donate the goods to our local foodbank to support those in the community who need a bit of extra support with food for themselves and their family.”
