Dementia Information Evening Brings Community Together at Meryton Place

Dementia Information Evening Brings Community Together at Meryton Place

Community organisations, carers and local professionals recently gathered at Meryton Place Care Home in Keynsham for a special information evening focused on dementia awareness and support.

The event, held at the home on Bath Road, aimed to share knowledge and strengthen support networks for people living with dementia and their families across the local community.

During the evening, attendees heard from David Moore, Head of Dementia at Hamberley Care Homes, who led a session exploring approaches to supporting people living with dementia. His presentation highlighted the importance of person-centred care, meaningful engagement and environments designed to help people feel safe, comfortable and understood.

The session also included an interactive workshop, offering practical ideas and guidance that attendees could take back to their own roles and organisations to help improve dementia support within the community.

David Moore explained that bringing people together in this way allows important conversations to take place and helps strengthen understanding of how best to support individuals living with dementia.

He said “It’s events like this that really bring people together and allow important conversations to start happening. By sharing knowledge and experiences, we can better understand how to support people living with dementia in a way that respects their individuality, while also ensuring their friends and family feel informed, supported and included. Dementia doesn’t just affect one person; it impacts entire families and communities. Working together helps us create environments where people can live well for longer and feel valued and understood.”

The evening welcomed representatives from a number of organisations working locally in dementia support, including ReMindUK, Archie’s Project and the Keynsham & Saltford Dementia Action Alliance.

Events like these reflect Meryton Place’s commitment to supporting both residents and the wider local community, while continuing to develop knowledge and understanding around dementia care.
