100-year-old Audrey Hughes couldn’t wait to read stories when the generations came together at a Keynsham care home.
Excited children from Snapdragons Nurseries arrived at Meryton Place Care Home, Bath Road, in a colourful parade of costumes - from Paddington Bear to Spot the Dog - for a joyful day of storytelling and imagination with residents.
Meryton Place resident Audrey said: “How lovely for the children to visit, it’s been many years since I read to children.
“I remember reading with my mother and father, we always loved books and enjoyed all the characters.”
The visit marked Snapdragon’s second trip to the care home this spring and created a heartwarming intergenerational celebration of books.
Together, children and residents enjoyed reading classics including Stick Man, I Am a Tiger, The Gruffalo and Where's Spot?
Meryton Place Wellbeing Assistant Hannah Phillips said: “These activities prove, that no matter what our age, we can all learn something new.
“It was so beautiful seeing the children sharing their stories, especially for those residents who couldn’t see the books very well but loved the company. We had residents absolutely beaming.”
Resident Peggy Coleman added: “It was such a lovely surprise having the little ones visit us. Seeing their costumes and hearing them read brought back so many memories of reading stories to my own children. They filled the room with laughter, it really brightened our day.”
