Caribbean Cruise Theme Brings Holiday Memories to Elstow Manor

Residents at Elstow Manor Care Home in Wixams, Bedford recently enjoyed a colourful Caribbean cruise-themed day, bringing the warmth and excitement of a holiday atmosphere into the home during the winter months.

The home on Bedford Road was filled with tropical decorations, music and refreshments as residents gathered together to enjoy the themed experience and share memories of past travels.

Cruise enthusiast Graham Edginton, aged 97, reflected on a lifetime of journeys across the world, including trips to destinations such as the Black Sea, Istanbul, the Canary Islands, the Bahamas and Barbados. He also recalled a memorable winter cruise around Iceland.

Graham said one of his favourite destinations was the volcanic archipelago of the Azores, describing it as absolutely stunning and saying that days like this bring back many happy memories of travelling and exploring new places.

The themed event encouraged residents to reminisce and share stories while enjoying the lively atmosphere created by music, colour and tropical-inspired refreshments.

Wellbeing and Lifestyle Lead Oliver Waddington said the cruise day provided a wonderful opportunity for residents to talk about their holidays and enjoy something bright and uplifting during the colder months.

Resident John Skevington, aged 89, also enjoyed the day and shared stories from his own experiences. Having served in Malta during his National Service, John said he has always appreciated travel, although many of his favourite holidays have been closer to home in places such as Devon, Wales and Scotland.

Events like these form part of daily life at Elstow Manor, bringing residents together through shared experiences, conversation and activities designed to support wellbeing and enjoyment throughout the year.
