Residents at Cofton Park Manor Care Home in Bromsgrove recently enjoyed a visit from antiques expert and Flog It! presenter Nick Davies.
Nick spent the afternoon chatting with residents and taking a look at a selection of treasured items they had brought along, from silverware and keepsakes to family heirlooms collected over the years. Each object quickly led to a story, with residents sharing the memories and moments connected to the pieces they had kept.
Resident Robert Allen, aged 93, particularly enjoyed the visit. Robert once worked in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter and said hearing Nick talk about hallmarks brought back plenty of memories from his working life.
“It was very interesting to listen to Nick and his stories,” he said. “I used to see hallmarks regularly in my line of work, so hearing about how they’re identified and what they mean brought back a lot of memories.”
Nick spoke about how silver hallmarks can reveal where an item was made, how old it is and the purity of the metal, which sparked plenty of interest among residents and staff.
He said he had a wonderful afternoon meeting everyone at the home and seeing the wide range of items people had brought along.
“Every object has a story behind it, and that’s what makes afternoons like this so special,” he said.
The afternoon led to plenty of conversation and reminiscence, as residents reflected on the memories and stories connected to the things they have kept over the years.
