Alston House Residents Contribute to Community Mural Project in Eastleigh

Residents at Alston House Care Home in Eastleigh recently took part in a creative community project helping to shape a new series of murals that will appear across the town.

The initiative, led by Eastleigh Borough Council, brings together students from Barton Peveril Sixth Form College and residents from Alston House to explore local history and share ideas that will inspire the artwork.

During the session, residents and students worked together with artist Nathan Evans to discuss memories, sketch ideas and reflect on Eastleigh’s heritage. The project aims to celebrate the town’s past while creating colourful public artwork that can be enjoyed by the wider community.

Residents shared personal stories and historical memories during the session, including recollections of local landmarks and industries that have played an important role in Eastleigh’s history.

Artist Nathan Evans said he was impressed by how naturally the two groups connected, with students and residents quickly exchanging ideas and creative thoughts throughout the session.

He explained that the discussions and sketches created during the workshop would help inform the final mural designs, capturing the voices and memories of people who know the town best.

The collaboration offered a valuable opportunity for different generations to learn from one another while contributing to a project that will leave a lasting mark on the local area.

At Alston House, taking part in community projects like this helps residents stay connected with local life while sharing their experiences and knowledge with younger generations.
