Wheely Wonderful Memories for Nursling Care Home Residents

Everyone was revved up when a Southampton care home enjoyed a day of motorcycling fun triggering happy biking memories for some.

Residents at Templeton Place Care Home were thrilled when a group of friendly local bikers drove up to their home giving them a chance to see bikes they hadn’t seen for years.

Resident Graham Hollier, aged 81, used to own a Triumph Speed Twin bike and was particularly delighted to see the bike park up outside the Hurst Way home.

He loved chatting to the group about the bikes and remembers how amazing it was ride the vehicle.

He said: “I still dream about riding that bike. It was wonderful to see it in person again.”

The Templeton Place team also asked families to bring along their own bikes and the day was hailed a huge success.

Resident Alan Aldred used to own a Triumph Tiger Cub bike and was thrilled to see the very same model on the day. He said: “What a wonderful surprise.”

Fellow resident John Allan, aged 86, was delighted to climb on board his son’s bike - 12-speed triple Triumph Thruxton.

Other models included a Ducati Scrambler and BSA Goldstar.

Templeton Place Wellbeing Coach Kiya McFarlane said: “We certainly didn’t expect to see so many amazing bikes. It was a huge thrill for us all and brought back so many happy memories for some residents.

“It was fabulous as two of the bikes were the exact same make and year as ones previously owned by two of our residents, which brought back some lovely memories for them.

“Thank you to our guest bikers and to all our super families for bringing their precious bikes to visit!”
