Treasured smiles from across the generations were enjoyed thanks to a ‘magnificent seven’ gorgeous chicks hatched at a Newton Mearns care home.
Nursery children from Kirktonholme Mearnswood Nursery, Newton Mearns, joined residents at Newton House Care Home to experience the joys of the little creatures.
Everyone got a chance to carefully hold the adorable chicks, bringing laughter to the North Greenlaw Way home.
Resident Betty Murdoch said: “It was magical, we were all in awe of the wonderful chicks, no matter what our age, they are delightful.
“I wish they could remain just like this forever!”
The residents have been carefully monitoring the seven eggs over the last few weeks and were delighted when they finally hatched. The little chicks were so keen to meet everyone that they had all hatched a day earlier than expected.
Newton House Well-being and Lifestyle Coach Kerry-Anne McDade said: “The chicks have been an absolute hit, with residents always coming out to our reception every morning to check on them and say hello. We could not believe that each of our seven hatched – they really are magnificent.
“This activity allowed a lot of our residents to reminisce about their childhood as some of them raised chicks, and then we all enjoyed seeing the joy on the children’s faces as they got to carefully hold a chick.”
The residents have had the chicks adopted by Bunny & Co, a mobile petting zoo which offers a hands-on animal experience across the region.
Kerry-Anne added: “Bunny & Co have kindly offered to allow our residents to maintain a relationship with the chicks by bringing them on their bi-monthly visits and sending regular photographs that can be shared with the residents so they can watch their tiny chicks grow up into chickens.”
