Octogenarian Elspeth McGown couldn’t wait to add to her collection of amazing hats to attend her precious niece’s wedding at the Sherbrooke Castle Hotel in Pollockshields, Glasgow.
Elspeth, of Newton House Care Home, has been to dozens of weddings over the years, but it was extra special when she attended her niece Jillian’s big day.
She said: “It was lovely to see so many faces that I recognised from the past, and I am delighted to see Jillian looking so happy.”
Although the former dental nurse has never tied the knot herself, she has always loved attending weddings of family and friends. She especially loves collecting the hats, and for Jillian’s wedding, she opted for a classic black fascinator.
Meanwhile, bride Jillian Bryers (nee McGown) looked stunning in her stylish silk dress, which sat just off the shoulders.
Jillian and her sister Susie Rigden have always been close to their aunt, and as children enjoyed many fun times at her home as well as many sporting adventures including golf, tennis and cycling.
Sadly, Elspeth’s devoted brother Kenneth has passed away, but Susie and Jillian have remained close to her and visit her every week at Newton House Care Home, North Greenlaw Way.
Niece Susie, who lives in Fife, said: “Elspeth has been to many weddings over the years, including mine nearly 25 years ago.
“She has enjoyed a huge circle of friends and was invited to loads of weddings. Elspeth enjoyed getting beautiful outfits with stunning hats in bright colours for the weddings she attended.”
Elspeth has lived at Newton House since March last year and previously lived in Giffnock.
