Colleagues at Newton House Care Home in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, have been stepping up for charity – raising almost £2,000 in support of cancer research and care.
The fundraising efforts were inspired by Maintenance Officer David Syme, who took part in the Cancer Research UK Big Hike, completing an impressive 26.2-mile trek across the Trossachs in just nine hours and raising £710.
David said:
“It was thrilling to complete the Big Hike and to be part of such an amazing event – there was a tremendous spirit on the day.”
Motivated by David’s dedication, other members of the Newton House team joined the cause. Kitchen Assistant Jonathan Bradley, together with his mum and Lead Homemaker Janette Bradley, completed a 10k event through Glasgow’s West End in aid of the Beatson Cancer Charity, raising a further £1,225. They were joined by former Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Kerri McNeill, helping to boost the total even more.
Jonathan said:
“It was lovely being part of a team and knowing we were doing something good and raising much-needed funds.”
Together, the Newton House team has raised £1,935 so far, with donations still coming in.
Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Kerry-Anne McDade said:
“We’re delighted to support these cancer charities. The work they do is more important than ever, and we’re proud to play our part.”
The team at Newton House continues to show how community spirit, teamwork, and compassion can make a real difference for vital causes.
