Local Artist Invites Care Home Residents to Exhibit Artwork at Sevenoaks Gallery

Residents from Nesbit House Care Home were proud to see their artwork displayed alongside a professional artist’s latest collection, after being invited to take part in a joint exhibition at Sevenoaks Kaleidoscope Gallery.

The exhibition featured work by Sevenoaks-based artist Andrea Coltman, alongside pieces created by residents from Nesbit House, celebrating the therapeutic and expressive power of creativity in later life.

Andrea, who began her career as a graphic artist before moving into fine art full-time, is known for her expressive use of colour and her passion for helping others discover their own artistic voice. She has exhibited widely, including in galleries across the South East.

Speaking about the collaboration, Andrea said:

“It was incredibly moving to see the residents from Nesbit House not only have their work included in my exhibition, but also to welcome them to the gallery in person.

Their presence brought such warmth and joy, and was a powerful reminder of how visual art can uplift spirits, spark connection and remind us of our shared humanity. I felt truly privileged to share this creative space with them.”

For residents, the opportunity to publicly exhibit their work was a meaningful and affirming experience.
John, aged 94, said:

“It’s wonderful to come together and exhibit our work as a group. Being asked to show my art alongside Andrea, who is so talented and encouraging, means a great deal to me.”

Iestyn Gadd, Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach at Nesbit House Care Home, explained that the value of art extends far beyond the finished piece.

“Creative activities like this offer huge benefits. They’re sociable and shared, helping residents connect with one another, but they also give people space to reflect on their lives and express feelings that can be difficult to put into words.

There’s a physical element too, from holding a brush to mixing colours. Experiences like Andrea’s sessions bring joy, stimulation and a genuine sense of purpose.”

The exhibition reflects Nesbit House’s commitment to enriching daily life through meaningful experiences, creative expression and strong connections with the local Sevenoaks community.
