Hampshire Care Home Opens Doors For A Hawaiian Fundraiser

Hampshire Care Home Opens Doors For A Hawaiian Fundraiser

Everyone had a beach-tastic time when Eastleigh care home residents threw a fundraiser for a heartfelt local appeal.

Residents at Alston House Care Home, Leigh Road, couldn’t wait to greet guests with “Aloha, Aloha” to support Sophie’s Appeal.

Resident Jennifer Cotter, aged 92, said: “It was amazing, and the temperatures were even hotter here than in Hawaii, so it was a wonderful way to invite our local community to enjoy our beautiful garden.”

Fellow resident Anne Gomm, aged 77, added: “I felt like I was on holiday, it was amazing!”

The home was packed full of people keen to enjoy the amazing refreshments including BBQ as well as a range of delicious mocktails.

Entertainment on the day was provided by Ukes in Common, the local Ukulele band.

Alston House Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Kelly-Marie Adams said: “We’ve had the perfect weather to enjoy a Hawaiian themed community day.

“We are also delighted as we were able to raise £307 to support Sophie’s Appeal, which is a local charity and very close to our hearts here at Alston House.”

Sophie’s Appeal was set up 20 years ago in memory of brave Eastleigh schoolgirl six-year-old Sophie Barringer who died of cancer in December 2004.

She had asked her parents to continue to help poorly children after she passed.

Set up by Sophie's parents Lin and Mike Barringer, the charity has helped thousands of sick children and their families.
