Wartime classics from Dame Vera Lynn and contemporaries brought back emotive memories for Cofton Hackett care home residents when they celebrated D-Day with live music.
Vintage vocal harmony trio The Bluebird Belles spent the afternoon entertaining the crowd at Cofton Park Manor Care Home in Lickey Road with 1940s hits such as ‘We’ll Meet Again’ and ‘The White Cliffs of Dover’.
Friends and family joined the residents for the event in honour of the 81st anniversary of D-Day, which marked the beginning of the famous Allied invasion of Normandy on 6 June 1944.
Resident Jean Alker, aged 96, said: “It was lovely singing the old traditional songs.”
Jean says she remembers the men in her family going off to war.
Fellow resident Margaret Bearman, aged 92, said: “All the songs brought back lots of memories. It was a scary time, and we will always remember those who risked everything to give us our freedom.”
Margaret remembers singing the songs with her mother during the war.
Beth and Carrie-Anne from the Bluebird Belles attended the Cofton Park Manor Care Home tribute.
The Bluebird Belles also includes Alex, Allie, and Shannon, and they have been performing together for more than ten years, delighting audiences around the region.
