Creative Moments: Pottery Workshop at Alston House

Creative Moments: Pottery Workshop at Alston House

Last week, residents at Alston House Care Home enjoyed a wonderfully creative pottery session led by professional potter Melissa. The hands-on workshop gave everyone the chance to try their hand at crafting beautiful, hand-built clay pieces.

From bowls to bird feeders, each resident created something unique. Melissa has now taken the pieces back to her studio to be fired and will return this week for a follow-up session, where residents will decorate and glaze their work.

Daphne Davis, aged 98, shared how much she loved the activity:
“This has been my favourite session. I’m so proud of the little bird bowl I made, with handmade flowers for the garden. I’ve never done pottery before, but I found it relaxing, interesting, and therapeutic.”

Anne Bates, aged 91, also thoroughly enjoyed the experience, creating a charming bird feeder shaped like a bird. “It was such a lovely session. I’d definitely like to do it again,” she said.

It was a fantastic afternoon of creativity, conversation, and calm—highlighting the joy that comes from trying something new, no matter your age.
