Building “The Bug Savoy” at Alston House: Greening Campaign in Action

Building “The Bug Savoy” at Alston House: Greening Campaign in Action

This week at Alston House Care Home, our residents and team continued their exciting journey with The Greening Campaign – a community-led environmental initiative focused on sustainability and local action.

In our latest session, we rolled up our sleeves and got stuck into building our very own Bug Hotel, delightfully named The Bug Savoy!

Crafted with care in our garden, The Bug Savoy will become a safe haven for a variety of beneficial insects – from ladybirds and lacewings to solitary bees. It’s more than just a bug hotel; it’s a beautiful example of how small actions can have a big impact on our environment.

Residents loved the creative process, collecting natural materials and constructing little ‘suites’ for our future garden guests. It sparked lovely conversations about nature, seasons, and the importance of protecting the little creatures that help our gardens thrive.

These sessions are a wonderful way to engage in meaningful activity while learning, connecting with nature, and contributing to a greener future – all at the heart of life at Alston House.

Stay tuned as The Bug Savoy welcomes its first residents – and keep an eye on our garden for more Greening Campaign updates!
