Residents Anne, Elizabeth, Kathleen, Betty and Barbara created the fresh drink especially for the Hailsham residents to mark the occasion of the state funeral held on Bank Holiday Monday.

Lifestyle & Wellbeing Coach Kay said: “They prepared all the fruit themselves and the residents enjoyed a glass at supper time. It was delicious.”

As well as fresh fruit residents and staff also enjoyed a whole range of beautiful fresh flowers which were put on display at the home.

All the flowers, including rosemary, lavender were from the gardens at the London Road home.

These carefully and respectfully echoed the flowers carried with the Queen on her journey from Scotland to London.

Abbots Wood Manor has also opened a book of condolence with residents adding their memories of the Queen. The book will be sent off to Buckingham Palace.

Kay added: “We made a big effort to speak to all our residents regarding the funeral, some had family members come in to watch with them. Others were with their friends from the care home to watch together. No one was alone.”
